NZ Qualifications Authority (NZQA)
It is recommended that all immigrant engineers get their overseas qualifications assessed by the NZ Qualifications Authority unless your degree is one recognised by the Washington Accord. You must submit original documents plus photocopies for all your qualifications (and for all your work experience if this is required to be assessed against a NZ qualification). NZQA will take responsibility for the safe keeping of all documents in their possession but not during transit. The application must be submitted with a completed application form. If documents are not in English then a full translation in English is required by a recognised official translation service. The list of recognised translation services can be viewed on their website www.nzqa.govt.nz if a qualification has to be verified by an overseas institution which charges a fee for verification you will be notified and asked to make a payment directly to the institution involved. NZQA will process a ‘standard’ application in 20 days but if verification requests are necessary this may cause the time to be extended. A ‘fast track’ service is offered for an additional cost. A New Zealand Guide and Application for Evaluation of International Qualifications is available at their website www.nzqa.govt.nz
However IPENZ will recognise for full professional membership, i.e. MIPENZ, membership of accredited professional engineering organisations in Australia, Canada, USA, Hong Kong, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Philippines, Thailand, South Africa, UK, and Ireland. See details on the IPENZ website www.ipenz.org.nzMIPENZ is a recognised qualification in NZ and if you can achieve this it may avoid the necessity of obtaining NZQA verification for your qualifications.
